Recruiting Ulfar in Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader brings a formidable Space Wolf warrior into your retinue, significantly altering your combat capabilities during late-game challenges. Unlike standard companions encountered early in the campaign, securing this Space Marine requires navigating complex narrative choices and specific prerequisites during Act 3 in Commorragh. Understanding the necessary dialogue paths and item exchanges ensures you do not miss adding this mighty battle-brother to your team.
Finding Ulfar in the Anatomical Opera
Players first encounter Ulfar held captive inside a massive cage within the Anatomical Opera during Act 3. To initiate his recruitment line, you must interact directly with Ulfar in his cell right after completing your first arena battle. Speaking to him unlocks key dialogue prompts that notify the surrounding Drukhari captors of your interest in his release.
Negotiating with Tervantias the Archmachinator
After speaking with Ulfar, turn your attention to the Haemonculus Tervantias, who holds the key to the prisoner's cell. You must offer to compensate him for his time using monster parts collected from arena fights or exploration loot around Commorragh. When negotiating, stroke Tervantias's massive ego by arguing that losing one Space Marine will not hinder a genius of his stature.
Unlocking the Cell and Securing His Loyalty
Once Tervantias agrees to the trade, he provides the Bone Key required to open Ulfar's cage. Return to the cell to unlock it and persuade Ulfar to join your cause by boasting of your authority as a Rogue Trader. Before leaving the area, make sure to loot the nearby container to retrieve Ulfar's unique Space Marine equipment and weaponry.
Integrating Ulfar into Your Combat Retinue
As a Space Wolf archetype, Ulfar excels at taking heavy damage while dealing destructive burst attacks across the battlefield. Managing his positioning properly allows your squad to push through dense enemy formations with minimal effort. Securing his loyalty ultimately completes his recruitment arc and adds an indispensable powerhouse to your roster.
